Golf in January? Well, almost ...
It’s a bitterly cold first week of January, so naturally our minds go to … golf?
Granted, the single-digit temperatures outside would make gripping a golf club decidedly uncomfortable. So let’s look ahead to a warmer time, and a brand new golf event that will benefit the Elmbrook Education Foundation, an organization that GMS strongly supports.
The very first annual Elmbrook Open Golf Outing will tee off May 16 at 10 a.m. at Ironwood Golf Course, Sussex. We hope to draw 150 participants and raise $25,000 for the EEF, which funds scholarships and innovative educational programs in the Elmbrook School District.
Anyone who lives in Brookfield, Elm Grove or New Berlin, WI, knows that the rivalry between Brookfield Central and Brookfield East high schools never cools. Well, the Elmbrook Open Golf Outing will keep that flame burning with competitions between alumni of the two schools.
Our owner, Todd Ruedt, Vice-President of the EEF, is a Central alumnus. If you’re an East alumnus, we hope you won’t hold it against him. Come on out to the golf outing, and show him (and all your longtime rivals) what’s what.
Besides a great round of golf – on a day guaranteed to be nicer than today - the event will feature a dinner and silent auction. Cost is $125 for golf and dinner, or $50 for dinner alone.
Registration isn’t open just yet. We’ll let you know when it is. Mark your calendar, though, and dream about balmy days and green links. Even if you can barely feel your fingers now, hopefully those mental images will at least warm your heart.
